The new permanent Headteacher Paul Bousfield and his senior leadership team have a big vision for the future of Southlands High School.

A new senior leadership team headed by Paul Bousfield signifies the start of a bright future in which all students will be supported to achieve their personal best, he has announced.

Mr. Bousfield joined Southlands High School, Chorley as interim Headteacher last September. Following the positive changes he has implemented, since then his position has been made permanent and he has begun re-energising the school. Soon after his appointment two new Deputy Headteachers joined his team and the work began to embed a refreshed vision for this school.

“Our drive is to ensure all students who join the school are immersed in an exhilarating programme of study throughout their Key stage 3 which ensures the breadth and depth of the National Curriculum is covered and students’ passion for learning is ignited.”

This desire to enthuse young learners can be seen through the enhancement of the learning environment and the school’s continued aim to provide students with specialist facilities, which now include a new performing arts studio.

Mr. Bousfield continued: “It is from this firm foundation that our students will be able to excel in their Key Stage 4 studies. Our ambition is that all students leave the school with a suite of qualifications which will enable them to be successful in their future lives.”

This commitment includes ensuring the majority of students complete the Ebacc. This is a set of subjects that the Government has identified gives young people the most opportunities in further study and careers.

Beyond exams

In Southlands, though, the wider development of the individual is also key.

The Headteacher added: “The school’s mantra is, Qualifications Plus. We know the importance of our students attaining excellent qualifications, but we recognise the importance of them developing as individuals too. With a broad and rich curriculum, coupled with a diverse programme of enrichment, our students will leave the school with the extra skills and experiences to make them successful.”

This is an exciting time for the school which is a member of the Mosaic Multi-Academy Trust. Not only does the school have a new leader, but this year the Trust has welcomed a new Chief Executive, Mr. Moore.

Building for the future

He said: “I am excited to lead our Trust into the next stages of development and growth, building on the excellent work of Mr Andy Pollard, the former CEO, and to be working with our exceptional school leaders across the Trust.

“This summer, both the Key Stage 2 SATs and GCSE results, have demonstrated the commitment our children have had to their learning across our schools and have been well supported by our highly skilled teachers and school staff. I want our children to continue to be passionate and inquisitive learners, and to enjoy every opportunity our schools have to offer. I know that as a family of schools, we will continue to strive to ensure that children who attend our schools leave as successful and ambitious learners with the qualifications, resilience and the employability skills to lead happy, successful lives and make a positive impact within their communities.”

Southlands High School and the wider Mosaic Trust passionately believe they can make a positive impact on the lives of the families and young people they serve.

To find out more and meet staff and students, the school is hosting an Open Evening on Thursday 6th October, 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a Headteacher's address from 4:30pm and 6:00pm.
