Plans to build more than 140 homes on a Preston estate are set to get the go-ahead.
Residents have bombarded Preston Town Hall with of letters of for and against the proposed scheme on land near Ryelands Crescent and Thurnham Road, Larches.

A total of 200 letters of support have been received from nearby residents who first objected to the plan, but changed their minds after developers altered their original proposal and pledged to provide more parking.

But the council has received almost 400 letters of objection, listing concerns including increased traffic and whether new homes would affect the area's character.

Larches ward councillor Mark Jewell says many of those will have come from residents who have since pledged their support.

Developers Stonewell Property Company want to build 146 homes including 44 three-storey town houses, 30 two-storey town houses, 12 mews houses and 60 two, three and four-storey apartments.

The company has amended its original plans, reducing the number of homes from 160 and the height of apartments close to Thurnham Road, Ryelands Crescent and Finney Park Drive to two storeys.

A report to councillors from planning officers states they would be "minded to approve" the proposal subject to developers contributing money towards issues such as traffic calming and pedestrian and cycle links.

Preston Council's planning committee meets on Monday.
