Despite a dark and wet evening, over 65 members listened with amazement to the knowledge of Margaret Robinson of Robinson's of Forton seed firm as she detailed the astonishing variety of 'Vegetables for Every Taste'
Founded in 1860 the fourth/fifth generation of the family still grow vegetables for seed which is exported world-wide.
In addition, they win major prizes at Chelsea, Tatton, and Southport for their fantastic and innovative displays.
Margaret entertained with much humour as she detailed the lovely colours of chard; the unwanted effects of a Bangalore Torpedo chilli; and the choices of yellow and red tomatoes now available.
A large example of a Tromboncino courgette had the audience in convulsions of laughter.
The Chairman confirmed that the Radio 4 Live Gardeners' Question Time event at Chorley Town Hall to start off our 125th Anniversary Celebrations in 2009 had been an exciting and very successful event, the final recording being broadcast on Sunday, 30 November.
Hyacinth bulbs were distributed to members for the table-top competition in March 2009.
Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at Chorley Cricket Club on Sandringham Road, Chorley, at 7.30 pm.
