There is always a friendly welcome awaiting members and visitors at Hoole but the warm August evening turned out to be very lively and entertaining.
The list of future events given out to members is most useful and the number and variety included seems to be growing with ever more choice.
Taster days of Bowls, Rambles, Golf and Aquatics proved to be popular and members were encouraged to enter items of their skills for the County Show in September.
The speaker, Mrs Lomax Chairman of Colne Hippodrome, gave a fascinating talk of life behind the curtains of amateur theatricals in particular the Costumes and Calamities of a Wardrobe Mistress.
She began by selling raffle tickets and rose through the ranks of tea brewing & selling ice cream until asked by the then wardrobe mistress to be the keeper of the fan for the Merry Widow 40 years ago.
She learned of the wonderful team effort required to costume and put performers back on stage with changes of clothing in under a minute and a half.
The next show 42nd Street has a huge cast and requires nearly 300 costumes 1930s style, so sourcing the appropriate clothing alone is a mammoth task.
The theatre group now has a wonderful array of clothes which span the decades from a hand sewn dress circa 1830 right to the present day.
Mrs Lomax brought back many happy memories as members were transported through the different fashions she displayed.
The piece de resistance being the beautiful ostrich feather fan which had been the start of her life backstage.
The next meeting at Hoole is 4th September - 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
